Solved secondary sata drive not recognized by xp

Specs: Windowsxp, pentium
i installed a new sata drive on my computer (dell desktop dimension 520) I installed windows xp no problems and it's working fine. i wanted to place "old" sata drive in computer as secondary to keep all old files intact and it's all connected motherboard and first hard drive to the computer The computer however will not recognize it as being there.... any suggestions..thanks

You did remember to connect power to the drive?

Where are you looking for it? Look in Windows disk management. You may need to take ownership of the files/ folders. Or you may need to enable the SATA controller in the BIOS (setup).

The old drive MAY have also been configured in the BIOS as an IDE device. That should be one of the settings there

power is connected it's the original drive from this computer but i wanted a larger one so i placed a new in and placed this as secondary. It works in a external compartment but when in the desktop it's not in device manager or under my computer
