Specs: Windows XP Pro
I own a Freeagent Desk 1tb external hard drive. I've owned this drive for alittle less then one year with no problems. Last night i used the drive and it worked fine with about less then 25gb of free space. I turned my computer off at night returned to it in the am and the drive wont turn on! It sounds like a car that wont turn over. Its just spinning with no LED's lighting up. I have alot of data that i dont want to loose. Any advice? & Yes i did contact Seagate and i'm still waiting on a reply.

Drives fail. IF you have that much irreplaceable data on a single drive where is your backup? Less than 25G free on a 1 TB drive? Not sure if the "Minimum15% free space" guideline applies to large drives.

The unit should still be covered by Seagate's 5 yr warranty but they do not provide data recovery nor does the warranty cover data loss. They will only replace the hardware if found to be faulty.

Was the drive connected when you started up?

Try rebooting without it connected and then connect it once your system has completed bootup. Only other suggestion would be the old Freezer treatment. Put the drive inside a sealed airtight bag (to keep moisture out). Put it in the freezer for an hour. Take it out and connect it. If it spins up retrieve your data.
