I have a Toshiba Satellite L500-1UR laptop which I have had just over a year, I was using it fine this morning and returned to it a while later to find the screen has stopped working. The laptop powers on fine as all the lights indicate and you can see a the display really faintly if you look hard at the black screen. I have tried logging in but the screen is so dark you can't do anything or even locate the cursor. I have tried removing the AC power supply and rebooting and the battery with the AC power supply and rebooting but nothing works. Any ideas as to what the problem could be and how to fix it without being too technical (I'm not much of an expert with laptops). Some other posts I've read seem to suggest a broken backlight or inverter?
Yeah you can just about make out what's on the screen, impossible to find the mouse cursor though! If it's the backlight will it be expensive / difficult to fix? I don't think it's the power supply as the laptop switches on both plugged into the AC power supply and running off the battery alone.
