SAPPHIRE Vapor-X HD5870 air direction

Sapphire Radeon hd 5870 video card

Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate, 8GB DDR3
Hi. I finally decided on what hardware to get but before I buy though I have better check a few things about airflow and have hit a problem I was thinking of getting a Gigabyte 5870 but the 2 rear exhaust holes will blow straight into my hard drive bay where it will be trapped to just get hotter unless I add some fans and drill some holes which i don't want to do. I then saw the sapphire Vapor-X HD5870 which does not have the rear fans so my question is will a Vapor-X HD5870 still blow hot air into my hard drive area or does it exhaust air out the front of the card + the fact that the Vapor-X HD5870 seems be a slightly better card in performance? Thanks

If you have good case venting now like a 120 mm rear fan, I wouldn't worry about it. I can't imagine that the engineers of that card didn't consider that already.

I'm not sure what you mean. Isn't the HDD bay inside the case? The video card draws air from within the case, blows it across the GPU & video RAM, then exhausts it out the rear of the case thru the vents built into the mounting bracket, not the other way around.

that what i wanted to check that the vapor-x does do that. The standard 5870 however seems to blow hot air into the case. Anyway 5870 vapor-x it is :) Thanks for help

Are you sure about the air flow direction or are you just assuming it's coming in from the back?

Air flow in the case is usually designed to come in from the front and, optionally, the sides and then out the back. Unless you have evidence to the contrary you should assume the air is exiting from the back of the card fan assembly.
