Sapphire HD 7770 crashes Win 7 after log in.

Specs: Windows 7
I have just bought a Sapphire HD 7770 to replace my Radeon HD 6870. The HD 6870 works, but is getting black bar artefacts. HD 7770 is taking power from same line as was HD 6870. I have installed the drivers which came with the DH 7770. I boot into Windows 7, and after a second or two - crash. I can boot into Safe mode, where I now am. Known problem, or defective device?

If it was a hardware issue you would not be able to start Windows in safe mode either.
Your symptom (Windows only starts in safe mode) typically occurs when a bad or incompatible third-party driver is installed.

If the problem started after installing your new graphics card driver, that must be the driver that's bad or incompatible, or it's conflicting with some other driver.

The supplied drivers on the CD will be out of date by now so you might want to try installing the newest driver for that card model from Sapphire's website: http://www.sapphiretech.com/present...

The HD6870 is a PCIe 2.1 card that uses 2-6 pin power connectors.

The HD7770 is a PCIe 3.0 card that uses 1-6 pin connector.

PCIe 3.0 is supposed to be backward compatible but possibly still be an issue.

The HD6870 may be under warranty.
