Samsung R510 Battery not charging to 100%

September 7, 2010 at 11:18:05
Specs: Windows 7
It will only charge up to 80%. Not sure if my battery source settings are correct/incorrect.
I have removed the battery and put it back in again, and still the same result.
When I press the battery bar, underneath the laptop, it only goes as far as 80 (the green dot lghts), and won't even go to 100. The laptop is 3 months old.

Hi. Once it has charged to 80%, and I disconnect the power lead, I am lucky if I have 1,5 to 2 hours battery life. Not impressed at all!

Its a feature of the laptop, you use it plugged in more than battery power right? If you go toStart Menu/Programs/Samsung there should be a program called "Battery Life Extender". Click on it and you can choose to either let it charge to 80 percent or all the way to 100. However, if you use it plugged in mainly then I would recommend leaving it only to 80 percent to avoid possible discharging of the battery from constantly charging. Hope this helps.

I sufferred the same thing when I upgraded my Samsung R519 from Vista to Windows 7. I remember with Vista I had a feature where I could set the battery to charge only to 80% to prolong its life. After the upgrade this feature vanished and there was no way of getting it to charge to 100%.

Finally, I went to the Samsung site and downloaded an application called Battery Life Extender, installed it and wow......there we go again....charging to 100%!

OH, thank you so much! I was going crazy I thought something was wrong with my battery charger, as it would only charge to 80%! I followed your steps and sure enough, it is set on " battery life extender" so it only charges to 80%. Thanks so much AGAIN! This was so helpful!
