Running 3 Monitors

Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium 64, 8 GB
I bought a new computer and was wanting to run 3 monitors off of it(2 24s and 1 19 inch) and in my computer I have 1 PCI express x16 and 3 PCI express x1 slots.

My question was that if I got this video card

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...

could I run all three monitors or would I have to get an extra video card such as

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...

Also I rarely play games so if there is a better way i can go about getting all 3 monitors up any suggestions are welcome.

My computer model number is HP p6214y and i already upgraded the power supply to 500 watts

That Video Card will only support 2 Monitors. They do sell Video cards that support 4 Monitors but they are way more expensive but would be the best solution.

You could get another Video card like you suggested but I would not get an PCI Express 1 card unless this third monitor will not be used for any of your games. If it is then I recommend matching graphics cards. Does your motherboard have another PCI Express 16 or 4 slot?

Also you should upgrade your power supply when running this many cards. With the card you have chosen 500 Watts should be fine but it is something you should consider.

My motherboard only has 1 x16 and the rest are x1 so i will probably get that one x1 card since that third monitor isnt gonna be used for games...and the matrox cards are a little too pricey for what i need the card for...but thanks for the answers

Get both nvidia or both ATI. I think the control panel from ATI is free. Not sure if configuration software from nvidia is available for free.

At any rate you want to be able to only use one driver version.
