Please post the make/model of your motherboard & details about the RAM. Being that you have an ancient AXP 1500+, you should be running DDR266 or higher speed RAM underclocked to DDR266 (133MHz). Did you manually configure the memory settings in the BIOS?

HI, thanks for the tip. Yes I guess a 2004 model could be considered ancient. It has an MSI motherboard installed. (sorry don't know where to find the particular model information). I have taken the new ram out and replaced it with the old and everything works well. I replaced on stick and it didn't boot. I suspect I am not going to be able to upgrade.

If you boot the system as is and go to - they will offer to scan your system; and then recommend what will work in it… The utility they employ is harmless and quite safe to allow.

They don't need information re' make/model etc. to download/run the scan utility. And if I remember correctly will likely produce that for you anyway, as a part result of the scan report/recommendations.

Crucial is very reliable source for RAM.
