Remedy for poor quality of printed document

March 12, 2011 at 10:55:44
Specs: Windows 7
I acquired a used Apple LaserWriter Select 360, last week. It works, but the printed document comes out with gray over print coloring, lines and blotches over entire page. Could cause be a bad toner cartridge, due to non-use for a period of time? I ordered a toner cartridge. Could there be any other causes which I could correct myself....as a non-computer/printer wizzard. KGR.

Lines and blotches can be a bad toner as can the grey. A bad transfer roller can also cause the grey. Blotches can also be coming from dirty rollers on the fuser.
Wait until you replace the toner before you spend any more money on parts.

Lasers are really like the newer copy machines. There is two parts that affect print. One how the image is put on the print engine and the second is the print engine. Some printers can have replacement toner so I want you to know the difference between a supply of toner and the device that transfers ink to the paper. The last part is a fuser roller that presses the ink to the paper.

You have to clean if you can the part that provides the image to the print engine. Second is it may not hurt to replace the print engine.

Look like the drum has been sitting with stray toner on it. Try running some paper through it.
