Refilling HP 2170 printer inkjet cartridges

Specs: Windows XP
do i need to reprogram an ink jet refill to my computer. It tells me to remove cartridge.

HP makes it so that you can not refill their cartridges. They have little eproms on their cartridges that tell the printer that they went empty once. You have to buy a new one.

You MAY be able to refill before they are empty but I suspect they are not really measuring ink but rather counting printer sheets and using a counter to determine that the cartridge is empty.

Ain't life grand. You can blame the feds for that.

There are loads of on-line companies offering compatible and remanufactured cartridges which are way cheaper than originals, & the process will reset the eeprom plus any decent company will offer a money-back guarantee. IMHO the good thing about HP cartridges is that the printhead is built into the cartridge so you can't do any damage to your printer which can happen with refilled cartridges without a printhead.
