Solved Recording Error Cannot record on this disc

January 17, 2015 at 15:24:28
Specs: Toshiba DVR620KU DVD recorder/player
Got a new Toshiba DVD Recorder/Player model DVR620KU (got the setup completed successfully) then inserted a blank Sony DVD+RW to record a local news segment that interest me ( so then it said Load and is automatically formatting the blank DVD) then it displayed this error message "Recording Error Cannot record on this disc"...I was able to record successfully the first time also on a blank DVD+RW but I did not protect and finalize that first one. Now this second attempt got this error...Thanks for any help you can give..

Most likely a bad disk. With the disk inserted you could right click the drive and see if there is a format option. If it formats then try recording on it again.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Possible problems: It is not possible to record wide-screen material onto +R or + RW discs.

'Copy once' protected titles can only be copied onto CPRM DVD-RW discs and only in VR mode.

Your manual will guide you to the limitations.

Crikey, that seems an odd limitation. I would have thought a file was a file so it's hard to understand what causes that limitation.

If your setup gives the option, then dropping the record speed might help.

RW discs tend to more fussy than R types, especially when played on other equipment.

I have run into drives that like or dislike certain brands (surprising though that might seem).

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Reading my post again Derek, I'm not happy either, those are error messages & my main message, was > Your manual will guide you to the limitations.

Thanks for all your responses.

I have tried all your suggestions and followed instructions in the manual ( pages-28 to 29) on formatting a disc manually for it will automatically format also. Tried it on almost half of the packages I bought for the following DVDs: Sony DVR-R 50-pack, Memorex DVD+R 10-pack, and Sony DVD+RW 25-pack, and still getting the same error. I have no access to other blank DVD brands cause my local store currently only have those three I mentioned.

I think I will just return this Toshiba and maybe try another brand if my local Best Buy store will have another brand when I go back there when I return this. This local branch only have Toshiba when I bought this last month.

Thanks again for all your help.
