Recommendations for USB VGA device

Specs: Windows XP SP3
I have an HP nc8430 laptop connected to an external monitor. I have a third monitor that I would like to connect.

I purchased a USB video adapter about a year ago and it was horrible. It was choppy, poor quality and constantly caused system crashes.

Can anyone recommend a good and *reliable* USB VGA device?

Apparently, no one else has these things ;)

I bought an EVGA UV+ 16. So far, so good; and it works more smoothly than the last one I had.

You need lots of bandwidth to run video smoothly. USB only has so much. Try running at a lower resolution or setting the color depth down to 16 bit.

Go to a web site that has user reviews along with the ads and read them, such as newegg or TigerDirect. However, keep in mind people who are complaining may be more likely to write a review than those who are satisfied.

e.g. I supplied links to a few examples of them at in this Topic a while back :
Laptop video adapters, TV tuners

You MAY need to plug it into a USB port built into the laptop - it may not work properly when connected to a port in a hub, the type that is multiple ports connected to one built in port.
Similarly, it may only work properly when it is the ONLY thing plugged into a PCMCIA (PC Card) or ExpressCard USB 2.0 controller adapter card.
