Reasons for Windows not recognizing USB ports

Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 2.666 GHz / 503 MB
Can someone please help me to understand why me usb ports are not being recognized by windows

Not enabled in bios. Not fully or properly supported in bios. Not having motherboard/daughterboard drivers in os. Faulty usb ports. Too much current being drawn. Maybe others.

If you really meant to ask, Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot Windows not recognizing USB Ports, go HERE and read the entire article, courtesy of HP. Chances are that if you follow every steps given in the article, your dead USB ports will come back alive.

P.S. While HP article is written for Windows Vista you can use it in Windows XP as well.

Is this a new install? Do they show up in device manager?

I don't see any USB drivers there but you might try the 'original chipset driver collection'.
