NEC or Primax Readyscan 636i

There are no scanner drivers on the NEC global FTP site. It was probably made by Primax for NEC.

The highest operating system drivers I've found for this are for Windows 2003, but you could try this - Vista drivers ? , which should work fine in Windows 7 - you have to sign up - I don't know if they ask for money after that

I've seen several discussions that point to a lot of older scanners/mfc printers not being supported by Windows 7. Most folks seem to have solved their problem by running out and buying a new unit that is supported.

Sure seems strange to me that one group of peripherals is afflicted this way.

Apparently the driver problem for scanners is more of a 32bit vs 64bit thing with no 64bit drivers available for a lot of scanners.

Here's a program called VueScan that got some folks up and running.

It's a commercial program with a free trial but NEC/Primax is not listed as being supported.

Others have solved the problem by dual booting 32bit XP or Linux.

Best of luck...

Did you investigate the link in Response 1?

Do you have Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?

I recommend Canon scanners.

If you / your wife have film negatives, you can get models that can scan negatives as well.
