Found a Leading edge Gorilla Banana dot matrix printer.....new in unopened box 1986?

I'm in need of need of finding the best ink and means to re ink the ribbon.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Note: The mfg has long since gone. New ribbons are next to impossible to find.

I suspect that common rubber stamp type of ink may work best. The original ink was most likely a type of lead (pb) in an oil carrier. Be careful with it and be sure to keep it away from children. Even them holding the pages may be bad for them. Or have it tested.

They do still sell modern copies of the old dot matrix and have support for them.

Some times you can find a similar cartridge and swap the ribbon. Since you are reinking carefully separate the cartridge halves and determine the type of ribbon - endless with twist or without twist. Another method of wetting the ribbon is using WD-40 spray lubricant, Give a light spray into the cartridge box. I believe the printer was made by C Itoh. If you are using rubber stamp ink use very little as it will gum up the print head.

There are lots of sellers still out there. As was pointed out Dot Matrix is alive and well.

If you can't find a replacement cartridge you should be able to get yours refitted with new ribbon. Contact some of the companies found by Googling. Link below.

BTW, I never heard of that brand. Good chance it is a rebrand from a major manufacturer. Again, help is out there. I wouldn't recommend trying to re-ink the ribbon. The cloth itself gets broken down and the results will be less than desirable.

Dang, I forgot about the pull ribbon from different case.

All of the above will result in ink being everywhere.
