RAM timing disparities

Microsoft Windows 7 home premium

Specs: Windows 7 64 bit, i7960/6GB,DDR3,1600
My pc is currently running 6GB of DDR3 1600 RAM with a timing of 9-9-9-24. What are the consequences of installing an additional 6GB of DDR3 1600 with a timing of 8-8-8-24? Does it matter which slots the faster RAM is installed into, and if so which sticks should go where.

"Does it matter which slots the faster RAM is installed into, and if so which sticks should go where."
Yes it matters only if u plan on running dual channel ram which is faster.
to run dual channel ram one must have the same ram speed, size, timings.doesnt matter where he puts them in wut channel all that matters is that they are the same specs thats why u see sometimes ram companies like OCZ sell dual ram boxes:http://www.slcentral.com/ddr-ram-comparision-corsair-ddr400-transcend-ddr500/Corsair%20Box.JPG

just one question why would someone need 12GB DDR3 ram?

Actually there would be two triple channels running. One DDR3 1600 9-9-9-24 (3x2GB) and one DDR3 1600 8-8-8-24 (3x2GB). The motherboard manual says " Always install DIMMs with the same CAS latency." I assumed they meant the same CAS latency on all three sticks going into one channel. But do both channels require the same CAS latency on all six sticks?

I've been overly influenced by George Mallory.
