Specs: Windows 8 64-bit, Intel i7 2620M, 4GB DDR3
My laptop currently has one 4 GB DDR3 RAM chip with DRAM Frequency of 665.2 MHz (measured using Speccy software). I am planning to add another RAM chip of 4 GB.

The frequency of above mentioned RAM is 1333 MHz. How much difference will it make if I buy two RAM chips of the same type and if I buy one RAM chip and use it with the old one ?

Thanks for your help!

After doing some quick research, I'm finding that you may not be comparing apples to apples. the information that Speccy is giving you i believe is the I/O Bus Clock. The information that you are seeing on the website you linked in your post is showing you the Data Rate.

According to Wikipedia, the two different memories are the same, you're just looking at two different pieces of information.

666.66MHz(I/O Bus Clock)=1333.33MHz(Data Rate)

Long story short, I think you'll be just fine.

I analysed the RAM from Crucial website, and it says the data rate is 1333 MHz.

So I guess I'll just buy one more RAM chip. Thanks for you answer!
