Ralink wireless card - auto log on with out entering WEP key

July 31, 2012 at 12:46:26
Specs: Windows XP, 256
I just got a new Ralink wireless card for my old desk top that I am having trouble setting it up. It works okay when it works but I can't always get it to work. First thing I would like to do is have it remember my WEP key so I don't have to type it in every time. I have tried a bunch of things with out success. Any ideas - thanks

Billy

Have you read the instructions? Are you using the Ralink software for your network connection or Windows? All you need to do is enter your password & save it. Aparrently you're not checking the "save" box. BTW, you need more RAM, 256MB isn't enough to run XP decently. Doubling it to 512MB would help, but going to 1GB (or more) would be much better.

No instructions came with it and ya my computer says 448 mb ram. I'm using it for my wireless connection and don't see a save button when I type in my wep key

Did you buy this card brand new? If you did, it should have come with a disc. The disc contains the drivers, Ralink software, plus the instructions. If you didn't install the Ralink software, configure the settings by clicking on the network icon in the system tray, click Properties, click the wireless networks tab, then click the properties button. You'll find what you need there.

I bought new - yes. I did the set up and installed with the disk. It works okay but I don't want to type in my wep key every time I re-boot. It has all kinds of bell & whistles I do not under stand, I just want to compute wirelessly....
