Radeon 4850 just suddenly died

May 22, 2010 at 12:58:52
Specs: Linux x86_64, 4GB
I was working in Windows earlier today when suddenly my right most monitor just cut out and went to sleep, I thought that was odd since nothing was touched. I then thought it was a loose cable somewhere but before I could touch anything the monitors rearranged and the computer rebooted, then I let the computer boot into Ubuntu Linux 9.10 and it too had rearraranged the desktop.

Neither will detect the other card but the fan on it will run and the red light does stay on consierably longer than the main video card in the case. I tried usiung the other DVI cable as well, nothing.

So is it fair to assume that its dead?

here is the set up:
AMD opteron 2356 x2 (Barcelona)
2 ATI Sapphire Radeon 4850 HD's
3 HP monitors
MSI speedter with 8 MB BIOS
16GB Crucial RAM
150GB WD Raptor
500 WD Caviar Black
dual booted with:
Windows 7 x64
Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

You failed to list the specs on your PSU. The 4850 needs a minimum of a 500 watt psu with 30 amps on the 12 volt rail, and that's for 1 card. Post back with your psu specs.

860W (930W peak) PC Power and Cooling single rail.

This system has been running for close to a year with out the slightest of hiccups.
