Specs: Windows XP
I have a Toshiba satellite laptop since 2005. It used to show purple dots in the`screen 1 and half years back but resolved on its own. Now it has surfaced again and its persisting. There are multiple dots and it does not give a clear picture. The words which are white or with other color sometimes changes color usually pink or purple. Can you please tell me whether its a hardware or any other problem. Thanks in advance.

Connect a monitor to the VGA port when the laptop is not running, then boot the laptop - in most cases the video on the external monitor will automatically work. (If not, see response 1 at the link below).

If the display on the external monitor is fine, there's nothing wrong with the display (video) adapter on the laptop. In that case you have a problem with something to do with the LCD display

See Response 1, 2, 4 and 5 in this:

"...it does not give a clear picture. "
You probably have the resoltion set wrong. See response 5 in that.

"The words which are white or with other color sometimes changes color usually pink or purple."

The most likely thing is the backlight is in the process of failing. It eventually burns out, the same as other florescent buls do
