ps/2 keyboard windows start key

Specs: Windows me
I have a computer running on windows'ME' with a standard ps/2 keyboard attached.

The windows key on the keyboard does nothing when I press it.
I have tried another keyboard that I know works on my other computer ok and that too does nothing when I press the windows key.
The windows start button on the screen works fine with the mouse.

I think it is a setting somewhere and not the keyboard that is at fault. Ideas please

If the keyboard has Hotkeys, check the manufacturer's website for drivers.

I am taking about a standard 'UK' qwerty keyboard ps/2 type
The key in question is the key with the windows logo on it
On the bottom row 2nd from the left.
When you press this key it should bring up the start menu, but it doesn't

As you should be aware there are no special drivers required for this type of keyboard, it is plug and play and works off Microsoft built in drivers.
The keyboard works fine on another machine, so it is not a keyboard fault.

Any more ideas please
