Do you have it connected directly to a purple PS/2 port?

You've tried it with XP home, XP pro, 98 and XP pro on a different hard drive. Was this done all on the same computer? And the KB did not work in any instance--even 98?

I've heard of that problem with XP often after a restore but not 98. If you're having a problem with both it sounds like a hardware failure.

So let's see exactly what you're doing with 98. First by 'load' I assume you mean 'install'. Did you boot with a 98 bootdisk but when you tried to run setup the keyboard wouldn't respond? Or, you booted from the 98 CD and the keyboard wouldn't respond when you typed 'setup'? Describe exactly what you did, exactly what happened up until the keyboard failure.

goodmorning Daveincaps thanks for answering, this problem as been driving me up the wall it started when i received a pop up from microsoft saying my hardware had changed so much since i registerd that i needed to re activate windows again i still don't know if this is legite or a virus any way when i tried to enter my reg no the keyboard would not work so i put a new hard drive in and different memory sticks reset bios on the jumper and tried to load win xp no keyboard win98 se no keyboard tried different keyboards
Now i have a usb mouse which works fine i took it out and used a ps2 mouse and used a xp cd on start up and every thing worked fine full install but now when i put the usb mouse in the keyboard does not work can not trouble shoot as the keyboard is not listed anywhere

GOODLIFE

You didn't think telling us about the Microsoft message was important?

Is your copy of WinXP legal? Disconnect the computer from the internet and try installing again. Use the original hardware.

Do you use a router or a software firewall?

You last response is not clear to me. There should be no conflict with the two type of mouse connections.

Are you saying you already have that copy of WinXP in use and registered on another computer?

Do you have the same problem with the mouse when used in different USB ports?

Otherwise, if it works OK when using a PS/2 mouse I guess that's what you're stuck with.
