Hello, I need help desparately. I have no clue where to begin to try and upgrade my processor for my machine. Is there any scanner that I can download that would make recommendations? I need this for my work from home position and would rather not sink money into a new machine if I can just upgrade my processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is it this cheapo Walmart special?

If you haven't upgraded the RAM, you definitely need more. I would do that before upgrading the processor. According to, your system has 2 memory slots & can accept up to 1GB per slot. Also, your board does NOT support dual channel mode. You probably just have a single 512MB stick, so just add a 1GB stick to bring your total to 1.5GB.

And since your board also has a PCIe x16 slot, it wouldn't hurt to add a video card rather than using the onboard graphics. If you have no intentions of playing games (or just light gaming), you can get a cheap card such as this Geforce 210 for $25 after rebate (free shipping):

Yes, it is the el cheapo from Wally world and it's been amazing for the work that I do. I have upgraded the memory to 2 gig, but now my job is requiring that I have at least a 2.0 processor. If there is no hope, that is fine, but I'd rather try to work with this machine a bit longer before I send it off for my kids to play with. it's been reliable.. I have had zero problems as long as I stay on top of basic upkeep.

Too bad you didn't ask a couple of days ago. is having a liquidation sale & had a S754 Athlon 64 3200+ 2.2GHz for just $13.50. I have no doubt it would have worked with your board. Currently out of stock. However, you could buy this board/CPU/HSF combo for $40, keep the CPU for yourself, then turn around & resell the combo but with your Sempron. Just a thought.....

EDIT: hey, I just realized that that's the exact same board as is in your system!

Thanks so much.. but I'm banging my head against the this will work out... I'm starting to think that a new pc would be a good start to my new year.. so I'm here on't know there was such a site) and checking out the various computer towers. Without breaking the bank, anything in particular that you would recommend? I'm not into gaming or downloading music. I just need a reliable work computer. I work in a virtual call center environment. So the processor and memory have to be high, if you know what I mean. I'm thinking this, would like some feedback The only this is that my call center won't work with 64bit Windows 7. I'm wondering if it were down graded to the xp professional, would that be at 34bit or still be 64 bit? Please understand that I am a complete blonde when trying to figure this out. Again, any help would be appreciated
