Solved Problems with laptop gpu (nVidia geforce 820m)

April 9, 2015 at 19:20:45
Specs: Windows 8.1
My laptop's gpu isn't working. I have tried installing and reinstalling drivers and everything. It should be working but it just doesn't start when I launch games. Even some old games are unplayable in lowest graphic settings, I'm sure my gpu should run them no problem. I have tried adjusting setting in nvidia control panel too, but nothing helps. I bought this laptop couple weeks ago, so gpu hasn't been working at all. My laptop is acer aspire e15 (E5-511G) with 8.1 windows OS. Any suggestions?

If GPU wasn't working you would not see anything on your monitor. If you are able to update the driver then you are seeing the system running so it is working.
Your GPU is pretty low on the list:

It is not really a gaming card.
You need to get your driver from NVidea or the laptop mfg only.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Thanks for the reply.

Ye I know it's not that good, but even really old games are running in so low fps it can't be true. Back in the days I was able to run these games with a potato faster. I have tried both newest nvidia driver and driver from acer's website, no difference. I also tried running game with integrated graphics and nvidia processor, it makes no difference. Also nvidia driver helper service on the taskbar tells me it's not using nvidia processor when I'm running games, even when it should. Maybe I will have to take this laptop back to the shop..

✔ Best Answer
Try installing GeForce Experience & let it find the proper gaming drivers for you:
