Problem with UPS after power outage

July 16, 2010 at 23:17:30
Specs: Windows XP
I have UPS Inform Guard and used to have connected to it my computer, monitor and speakers. Yesterday, while my computer was on, there was a power outage and now my UPS won't start up. I hold the power button for two seconds, there is a beeping sound for a second, the light becomes green, but then it turns off again. Can I fix it?

Sounds like you need to do a battery test. Do you have the instructions that came with the UPS or the Make and Model?

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately I don't keep the manual but on the back it says the model is: GUARD 600A, input: AC 220-240V 50/60Hz 4A, output: AC 220V 50/60Hz 360W max. I usually keep my computer, monitor and speakers connected to an extension lead which is connected to the UPS and the UPS connected to the socket. As I said before when I try to start the UPS, it's on just for a second and then shuts down. But I tried disconnecting the extension, leaving only the UPS connected to the socket and when I turn it on it stays on. Then, when I plug the extension again, UPS beeps for a few second and shuts down again. I tried with different extension, even only my computer connected to it, but UPS wouldn't stay on - anything I plug in it, it rejects it and shuts down. Could the problem be from the battery? How to test it?

Is THIS what you are talking about?

By the way ......

I usually keep my computer, monitor and speakers connected to an extension lead which is connected to the UPS ...

This is a very bad practice to use extension cord and could be the reason for the UPS malfunction. There is nothing you can do to fix the UPS. The norm is to replace it.
