Problem with display on used Sony VAIO laptop 2005 Model

Specs: Windows XP, Intel(R) Pentium(R) M
I purchased a used VAIO PCG-8QEL A series (2005) laptop for grandchild. It has MOBILITY RADEON 9200 AGP SCREEN. PROBLEM with same. Screen has vertical dashed lines going through it and mottled display. Research says may be 3-D settings but I know nothing about settings????? Any suggestions? THIS IS INFO:

Your video ram has failed or the BGA connections for the ram or the GPU have failed. Either way you are going to have to have the VRAM and or the GPU reballed or reflowed to get it to work.

Or you can just have the mainboard replaced.

I do this stuff all day every day, sorry for the bad news.
