Solved Problem reaching network from modem & router

July 11, 2011 at 21:13:21
Specs: Windows 7
Have a Linksys modem and wireless router. When line runs from the modem to the wireless router and from the wireless router to desk top, no internet access but wireless works to local laptop.

Desktop will get access when line is run directly from modem to desk top. Unit has worked properly before. Does it sound like either the modem, (cable modem) or router, (wireless G) is bad?

I set up an Asus RN 12 router and my desk top is working with a cable connection.
I'll see if someone is able to connect by wireless when I have an opportunity.

I understand that the connection is supposed to be automatic but that I need to give them the pass word.

Thanks you for the help.

I returned the Asus RN 12 router and got a refurbished Linksys router. The refurbished Linksys worked for one day and then also failed.

After spending a lot of time on the phone wth Linksys, they confirmed that the
refurbished router had failed. So, I replaced that with a Linksys E2000 router. That has is working OK.

I assumed that refurbished meant up to new specifications but re worked by the manufacturer to bring it to that point. Apparently, refurbished doesn't equate to
same as new.

Your stggestion that the router was the problem was right.
