I am using Intel D945GCCR desktop board after a regular windows update when i reboot my system my Sony DVD/CD ROM driver's icon disappeared from the explorer "my computer" and also from my BIOS and device manager to.
And while solving this problem my hard disk drive also was not detected by the BIOS. please help me or i would be killed by my father!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A Windows update shouldn't affect the BIOS. Watch the POST screens at start up to see if all your drives are being configured.
If both drives are on the same IDE cable then the failure of either one can affect the configuration of the other.
What did you do to solve the DVD/CD drive issue? If you messed with cables or jumpers you probably have them configured wrong.
The OS & the BIOS are separate. If the BIOS isn't recognizing your drives, you have a hardware problem unrelated to the Windows update. Then again, if the BIOS wasn't recognizing the drives, you wouldn't even be able to boot into Windows.
