primary and secondary ide controller none

Specs: windows xp home
When I switch the laptop on It shows no operating system I have looked in the bios and it shows that there are no IDE controllors
how do I get them working please
I can feel the hard drive working and the cd running

May be it is bad hdd, try to load default settings in BIOS.

The hard drive may have failed and in need of replacing with a new drive.
You can test it with the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software for DOS. The download links are here: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm...

How do you know the hdd is OK? If the spinning of hdd is the reason why u still believe hdd is fine then u are wrong.

The actual IDE controller is attached into the IDE devices such as HDD or optical drives.

Try to load BIOS default settings.
