power supply light flashes red 4x/white once

March 13, 2011 at 05:27:23
Specs: Windows 7
dell inspiron 1440 - power supply light continusly flashes 4 red times, then white once; I can only stop it if I turn off & unplug the laptop. It had been perfect until I took it to a meeting Friday night & ran it for about 2 hours on battery only. I took the power supply with me, but did not use it. When I got home & plugged it in & turned it on, it started flashing. It is fully charged from Friday's battery use & everything seems to be working OK.

Are talking about the light or lights ON THE LAPTOP, on the battery, or on the actual power supply adapter (shown here) itself?

Just another stupid saying...

This is the power supply light on the front edge of the computer. Usually it is solid white. The light flashes even after the computer is off. The only time it doesn't flash is when the computer is off AND unplugged. Everything seems to be connected. Everything seems to work as it should, except for this annoying flashing light. I just don't want to ruin something.

Ya know M Smith, I cannot find flash codes information for your model online...anywhere ('cept for a 1545 forum posting, which is not really any help).

Try updating your BIOS.

Sry, or try Dell Chat here: http://support.dell.com/support/top...
