power problem with my compaq evo

May 11, 2013 at 12:18:02
Specs: Windows XP, 640.0 mb
Compaq evo n600c will not stay on when it is on battery power. I just got my new battery and I went in to the control panels power options and selected that the monitor and disk drives never turn off under any circumstance. However, it still does and now my computer will not acknowledge me pressing F10 to get into the setup instead it goes right to the operating system (XP). Any suggestions? laptop

If the battery is new it may need 24 hrs. or more to fully charge.

Did you buy a HP battery or a clone?

The battery has been charged and it is an HP battery for that model. I did notice in the setup it mentioned something about calibrating the battery. I didn't really know what that was for. But now the computer wont let me get into the setup by F10. It just boots up to windows xp like normal.

It may be you are not pressing and holding down F10 at the correct moment. I usually switch on my laptop and immediately hold down the Setup key (F2 on mine) until the BIOS Setup screen appears.

If you wait for the manufacturer's splash-screen to appear before pressing the setup key, that can often be too late by the time you've reacted, especially if the splash-screen is only up for a couple of seconds.
