Power outage & monitor won't work

April 13, 2009 at 18:20:15
Specs: Windows XP
We had a power outage, and our computers were on, have surge protectors on both. One pc is fine, and the other sounds like it's booting up and all, but the monitor is black and the little button blinks. I thought the monitor was fried and bought another one, but it does the same thing. Black screen, when the connection is off, and it's just power, the little screen comes on saying there isn't a connetion, connected, just black. What could it be? Please help!

Sounds like your video card. Try you monitor on a different computer if you can, use the one that you posted this on. You say you have surge pro but how old are they? have they taken any hits before? I find a lot of people think they have surge protectors but what they really have is an extension cord with a couple of outlets.

I have a surge protector, but it has been hit a couple of times already. All the lights were okay on it, but maybe it's just not working. I did try the monitor, and it's okay with my other pc. How much does a video card run these days?
