Power Button broken, in hold mode

October 27, 2009 at 08:18:41
Specs: Windows XP
My Clie is permanently set in "hold" mode -- the screen is inaccessible. When I tried to take it out of hold mode, the power button broke, and now it seems to be permanently in hold. The battery is charged up. I did a soft reset and when the Palm screen comes up there's a blue box over it that says "hold". according to the manual a soft reset will retain all files and apps. I need to access a file on the Clie -- any suggestions on how to get it off hold, even though the button is broken? Or how to retrieve the data (I can't hotsync it, so that's not an option) - thanks!

What do you mean the power button is broken?

It's a sliding button: slide up to put it in or out of hold mode; slide down to switch it on. It springs back to a neutral position after you push it up or down. The last time I slid the button up I heard a snapping noise and it immediately lost the ability to spring back to neutral. Now when I slide it up or down nothing happens; it won't come out of hold mode.

Then you will have to open the case and try to fix it or at least maybe set the switch off (or disable switch) and close it back up.
