Specs: Windows 7
Hi there,

I have a post card, which is like night and day for solving problems where you have no boot up screen .

I have an Acer M1640, while Ive looked up the motherboard, I only found out that its a 7000 chipset.

With no hard drive/ on board video card / keyboard/mouse

FF 9F

with no cpu in

-- FF

Cpu /memory

FF 9F

with cpu/ hard drive/onboard/key.mouse/memory

FF9F

with Cpu/new video card (not on board), key mouse/memory/etc

FF9F

So its basically FF 9F.

As far Ive learned, FF means, post has passed, and everything looks ok.

and 9F

usually has something to do with either a keyboard or a hard drive,

since I dont get a screen, thats why i tried an a different video card

Ive cleared the cmos as well. And Ive tried a different psu and different CPU.

im just wondering what maybe one of you think.

Ive also tried, One dimm, two dimms, different memory.

i think its something Im missing, and hopefully you can help

No beep codes, its a bloody acer.

Its at 1 F now, after swapping every piece possible, I have a 1F now. Ive also had 6F.

The board is AMIBIOS

FF is not in my book

and 1F is IF EISA is non-violate , checksum good

Also the card is USB or PCI.

I used PCI as its more accurate regarding its plugged into board

It shows the power supply +12 - 12 +5 -5, which are all good.

Is there a proper way to diagnose a motherboard, other than trying everything and parts under the sun.

Id rather be able to point 100 percent its the motherboard, but its for a friend and he can get along without it since i gave him a loaner. But its a decent computer for what hed use for

Thanks again
-- FF (no dimms installed)
FF 6F (1 dimm installed)
FF 9F(1 dimm installed
FF 1 F ( 2 dimms installed.

The information should be found on book bios companion.

let me know what you think
