possible virus or hardware problem

Toshiba Satellite a135-s4527 notebook
July 30, 2009 at 07:45:32
Specs: Windows XP
The laptop worked fine on the wi-fi connection at a hotel, but the next night the computer would not work properly. I could not connect to the internet, the Control Panel will not open, and Windows Live One Care will not run in order to see if there is a virus. Also, it locks up and you have to use the task manager to close anything that has to do with the programs having issues. What can I do to fix?

Try performing a System restore to a restore point before the problem. If successful then clear all the restore points and create one for that time.

Start> help and support> system restore.

I'm inclined to think you may have hardware problem. I always bring with me my Toshiba notebook when traveling and I use it all the time to hook up to the hotels wifi. I also have WLOC just like you.

Try booting to Safe Mode (F8)? and try system restore from there. Check to see how much free space is on the hard drive.
