PCI-e X16 slot will not run ATI XFX 4200 card

Ati radeon / Xfx nforce 4200 series

Specs: Windows XP, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, Dual Core processor with AMD64 Technology 2.2 GB2
Have a Gateway GM5084 Multimedia Computer with 1 PCIe X16 slot. BIOS set to look for card first. Attached monitor to card. Screen is blank. Computer does not recognize card, see this when I leave it in but connect VGA cable to AGP so I have a working screen and go to system hardware - no card! Card heats up but no signal from it. If I insert card while running computer from AGPit crashes computer. Is X16 a PCIE 2.0 standard? Any ideas?

I'm not sure what you're asking. You system has no AGP slot, only PCIe x16. Did you mean IGP? And there is no "ATI XFX 4200", do you mean Radeon HD 2400?

"If I insert card while running computer"

Are you saying you inserted the card while the system was plugged in & running? Are you deliberately trying to damage the system or video card?

It is the XFX Radeon HD 4350 512MB PCIe w/DVI. The card will not work in my computer. Sorry about wrong card data, I guessed.

I inserted the card while the computer was running from the AGP port in trying everything possible to get the system to recognize it as new hardware. Risky, but the card not only does not produce output but is also not recognized even when in the PCEe slot!

Had same problem. Did everything you did. Exactly! Defective card. Tried another, works fine.

Crazy! I answered my own problem! The answer was replacing card. Guess God helps those who help themselves.
