Specs: Windows XP
Hi guys! i'm new at this forum and i am having a problem with my computer...

my computer do not boot when my HDD is powered... my board has IDE ports which one being utilized by my HDD... when i try to turn on my computer, it will not even reach the BIOS screen... i tried to determine whether other parts may cause the problem (e.g. PSU, CPU, RAM, video card) but i still don't have a clue why this is happening. I also tried other working HDD, but still will not let my PC to boot. My motherboard has two slots of IDE, both of which results to boot failure... i tried to search other forums, but i am not into the numbers when it come to computers...

thanks a lot!

Try this.
Have the molex connector to the harddrive connected but leave the data cable unplugged. Will the system boot?

If not then the problem is a failed powersupply.

If it will boot with the HDD power connected but not when you plug in the IDE cable then your motherboard may be shot. Have you tried a different IDE cable?

Thanks for the reply!

i have tried the things that you've suggested...

i tried to boot with the IDE cable of the HDD connected, works fine... it says to choose proper boot media device, since my first boot priority is my HDD and other boot device are disabled...

when i connected the molex connector and disconnected the IDE, the system will again not boot... i tried replacing my power supply with a fine one, but still will not boot...

what puzzles me the most is that sometimes my computer works! and by "it works", i actually mean that it works... but most of the time, it will not boot... this is why when i manage to turn my computer in the morning, i no longer shut it down for the day...

thanks again!
