on two occasions now in the last 8 months or so my clean and defragged hard drive will for no apparent reason rearrange a gazzilion files (pictures also) and turn the fragmention indication bar a solid red. i am not aware of any particular event or cause for this. i run disk clean again and there will be 6,600,000 files that need to be cleaned up and spend 30 minutes running defrag again...otherwise my system runs fantastic day in and day out. any idears...tkp001

Look at the event viewer.
Start run eventvwr.msc press enter.

I would run scans for any malware, like viruses, trojans, worms, etc.

Are you by chance using Go back by Symantec?
