PC not using RAM

Specs: Windows XP, 2.00Ghz / 1GB
I have installed an extra 512meg of RAM to take my PC up to 1GB but XP is only ever using the original 512 meg. It's quite an old PC an NEC (Packard Bell) Intel Celeron CPU 2.00Ghz. How can I get it to use all the RAM?

Without any detailed specifications of your motherboard model number or the ram modules you have we would be guessing about your problem. You may have a bios limitation on the amount of ram the board can take. or the new chip/s you bought are incompatible or maybe they are faulty.

Step 1. Remove the new ram.
Step 2. Visit www.crucial.com and let them scan your system. Generally they will advise you of the maximum amount of ram your board can take as well as the specifications you need
