Every time I try to insert a CD-Rom into my computer, I can hear it running for a second, but then it stops. The CD-Rom drive still shows up as Empty in Itunes and even My Computer, and when I try to tell it to read the disc, it just opens the disc drive. I'm really not sure what to do.

What is Device Manager showing? Is the laptop still under Warranty?

Device Manager just shows the drive empty. When I click on it, it tells me to insert a disc.

Device Manager shows the drive as empty even when I have a CD in it.

Clarify your statement about device manager. When you view the properties of that drive in Device Manager there are five tabs.

Under the general tab is the drive identified by model?

With a known good optical disk inserted into the drive choose the Volumes tab and then populate. Does it show a disk is present or not?

If the drive is removable try removing it and reinserting it.
