PC keeps waking up

January 16, 2017 at 07:34:35
Specs: Windows 10, AMD A6 - 6GB
I have two computers...a laptop on WiFi and a desktop ..both using Windows 10. When my desktop is in sleep mode, it wakes up when the laptop is booted up. This never happened before and wondering if one of Windows 10 updates are the cause.

Seems logical. Microsoft updates may have changed the parameters of what can bring the desktop out of the sleep mode.

You can check which updates were installed recently and Google the update to see what it is for.

I do not use auto update for that reason. Instead I have my computers set to download updates and notify me that they are available. Then you can check weather or not you want to install them.

I don't accept any hardware updates from MS. If a hardware update is needed I get them from the hardware manufacturer.

You can also check your advanced power options to see what settings you currently have. Find those in control panel> Power options. I don't run Windows 10, so I can't be more specific.

Looks like your laptop is trying to contact your desktop over your home network and the desktop is acting on it. (LAN WAKE-UP).

In BIOS set not to wake on LAN, not to wake on mouse (mouse click typically wakes it anyway but movement won't). These should fix your issue, it has form me in the past.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

This is how i disabled Wake on LAN:

Goto devicemanager, easiest way is to right click YOUR PC --> manage.
Select devicemanager --> networkadapters --> "your wifi-card" --> properties --> change settings.

Find the Wake on LAN property and disable it.

Same can be done for mouse\keyboard.

Another issue is when you have 2 separate profiles on 2 separate PCs is that when you sync your Microsoft account on one it will duplicate or attempt to on the 2nd. Very annoying. For instance, my Surface Pros' task bar is on the top of screen and my laptops' task bar is on the left. Both with win 10 and same Microsoft account. When I use either the task bar jumps from top to left, and finally got fed up with separating them so I keep them in the same place now.

I don't need to be right, but I am never wrong.
