|my xp pc freezes when i try to access any files on the slave drive. restarting it using the reset button will also freeze the pc when it reaches the motherboard logo. i have to turn it off, and then on, before i can use it again. i also notice that the computer loses time when this happens. it's like a complete freeze on the system, including the motherboard battery. |
i currently have two 40gb seagate hard drives installed, and both are partitioned. i have no problem with the primary drive. i'm using the slave drive mainly for file storage, no major software installed on it. i am able to and had already scanned for viruses on the slave drive, and it's clean (according to the anti-virus software). however, when i tried using windows error check and repair on it, it freezes; also with the chkdsk on ms-dos.
i can't tell if this is caused by corrupted files/viruses, or if it's a hardware issue. this computer was recently formatted three weeks ago, so it shouldn't have accumulated that much gunk on it. will changing the motherboard battery help??
