Specs: N/a, N/a
My Panasonic LCD 50 inch tv has a dark patch on one side but only on the lower half. The rest of the screen is completely normal . I use the Panny as a pc monitor. Has anyone got any ideas as to the cause. I have tried reconnecting the lcds cable to no avail.

It sounds like the backlight is going out. If it's an older model, it uses a cold cathode florescent tube, they can start to dim at one end when they go bad. If it's a newer model, they use an array of white LED's for the backlight and possibly one of those has gone bad.

Edit, cold cathode tubes that are at the end of their life can also put out a pinkish hue when they first come on, are you seeing this issue when you first turn on your laptop?

Am not sure about the backlight . It is only 3 years old and has LED backlighting. I have taken the rear cover off the TV and it does appear to be well lit with almost all the LED's working.
Have done some testing. Panasonic have a direct TV record feature when you connect them to a panny dvd recorder. I recorded a program and it was completely error free. This indicates to me that the signal processing board and power supply boards are both ok. I suspect some sort of output failure. My prime suspect is the LCD panel or IC driver board at the top of the panel. I also think it could be the tcon board as this is the last circuit board before the signal reaches the screen panel. Have bought a used tcon board. Just awaiting delivery.

New Tcon board fitted and tv is still faulty. However, I have stripped down the lcd panel further and think I have spotted a failed led strip in the area of the panel where the screen is dark. THX 1138 , I think you may be right that the problem is a backlight issue. In this case the backlight is LEDs.I am going to replace the failed led strip. Should solve the problem.

I have now further dismantled the LCD panel. I have found that the panel has 2 strips of led lights , one down each side of the screen. Both appear to be completely functioning normally. my conclusion is now that the fault lies in the LCD or that it is a fault in the signal control circuit board. Thanks for all contributions
