out of range monitor

April 13, 2011 at 10:57:20
Specs: Windows XP
I have got a cpu assembled with Intel Dual Core processor & 1 GB ram having Windows XP OS. But, I have retained my Compaq MV 520 color monitor. The computer works fine with screen resolution of 800 X 600 pixel, but when I increase the resolution to 1024 X 768 I get out or range error & monitor screen goes blank.

Is your monitor refresh rate set at 60Hz? If not this could be the problem.

Go to Display Properties > Settings tab > Advanced button > Monitor tab.

Please come back and let us know how you got on.

Thanks for your reply. Refresh rate of my monitor is set to 60 Hz, but still I am unable to set resolution at 1024 X 768. My monitor is identified by windows Xp as "Plug & Play" monitor. Is it possible that complete drivers for Compaq MV 520 monitor have not been installed, which is causing the problem?

Nothing lost trying to get the monitor drivers, although I have found that updating "video drivers" usually has most affect. Monitor drivers normally just deal with features (front controls etc).

Please come back and let us know how you got on.
