Operating system not found!

Specs: Windows Vista, Intel
Help please. I am in school for computer engineering so any terminology I can understand. My friend dropped her laptop about 1 foot off the ground. Now she gets (In exact order)

PXE-E61: MEDIA TEST FAILURE, CHECK CABLE
PXE-M0F: EXITING INTEL PXE ROM
OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND

Now, this leads me to believe the hard drive is having a problem. I have never taken a laptop apart, so I am considering solutions without disassembling first. I rearranged the BIOS and no luck. It recognizes the hard drive that is installed... What do you guys think?

Thank you for any input!

From Google it appears the laptop may be attempting to boot from a network device. Enter the BIOS (setup) screens and see if that is the case.

Most likely the drive is defective. If you can determine the brand you can run a drive fitness test on it. If I had to guess at the brand I would guess Hitachi.

You should be able to research the laptop model and determine for sure. Then download and burn to CDR the drive fitness utility and boot to the disk.

As OtheHill said, the PXE message(s) indicate that the laptop is attempting to boot off a network. Check the BIOS settings.

"I rearranged the BIOS and no luck" Rearranged how, exactly?
