i have locked a partition of my hard drive with bit-locker on my laptop Dell Latitude E6400 running windows 7 and after some troubles in my laptop i had changed my OS from Windows to windows vista business (original OS of my laptop) without disabling bit-locker . so i have now the partition locked with bit-locker in windows 7 inusable with notification: ( you need to format the disk in drive D: before you can use it) please i need some thing to resolve the problem without loosing data in locked drive thanks
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but a drive encrypted in one windows operating system cannot be accessed by anything but that original windows installation. Even if you re-installed Win7 in the laptop the encrypted drive would remain inaccessible. Otherwise there would be no point to encryption.
Unless you have an NTbackup or other backup that saved system state I tend to agree with Richard59. As far as I know, the encryption on that drive is not commonly known to be broken. I am sure there is a way other than brute force but it is not public yet. You'd need to re-create some very special numbers that come from the time you made a user. It almost can't be recreated.
