Offsite VPN External Hard Drive Setup

Specs: Windows Server 2008, amd dual core / 4 gb
I've been asked to setup an automatic backup service from a 2008 server at a small business to an external hard drive at a home. My thinking is to create a VPN and use backup software. What I'm not sure about is how and what hardware to use. I would think I could get a static IP at the home and setup a router with a usb port for the external hard drive; and this would bypass the need to setup a pc at the home destination? Any thoughts?

Note: This person does not want to use an off site service like Carbonite or Dropbox.

Depends on the security level of the tunnel. It may work over ddns. Static is always easier.

Basically once you create a tunnel the remote looks like a local resource. I suppose ntbackup would work along with rsync or almost any copy or clone app. Maybe backula.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
