numbering of pci express slots

Specs: Windows 7 64, I7 3.2 GHZ/12 GIGS
My GIGABYTE motherboard has two PCIEx16 slots. How do I determine which is considered slot no 1 and no 2? The NEWEGG website says that if you are using only one video card to make sure that it is in slot #1 but I cannot find out which one it is.

It really should have a diagram in the m/b manual with the slots numbered. On the Gigabyte X58A-UD7 it's the one nearest the processor (PCIEX16_1 in the manual). I should think it's a safe guess that it's the same one on your m/b.

If not clear in your manual I would assume the top slot is #1.

That is the method used to label PCI slots.

That makes sense but my as far as I can tell the users manual does not mention which is no 1 or 2.
Thanks.

Is the model of the motherboard a secret?

You were right-- page 7 of the GA-X58A-UD3R manual has a schematic with the numbering I was looking for, the slot closest to the processor is #1.

Thanks again.
