Notebook turning off abruptly and then not switching on

Specs: Windows 7, 5.4 GHz / 2009 MB
I have an Acer Aspire One D260. A week ago it's charger fell from my bed and it stopped working. It then started working on it's own. Since then, I don't exactly remember the time, but my notebook shuts down abruptly. And then doesn't switch on at all. I have to wait for alot of time and then it starts when it wants to. What can it be? Is it the charger? I tried to switch it on battery too.

It sounds like the unit is overheating...you can try a can of compressed air and blow out where the fan is (usually vented on the side or back). If the fan has stopped working you would have to weigh out how much is the netbook worth and is it worth repairing.

The charger itself can be tested with a multimeter.

It gets hot and shuts off to protect itself. Perhaps dropping the charger has damaged it and it is supplying incorrect voltage causing the heat issue. Once it cools for awhile....it will turn back on. As I say you can test the power supply. Net books because they are inexpensive are not usually worth doing major repair work unless you paid a lot for it.

Also, Why does it take it too long to turn on the netbook? The charger doesn't actually stop giving lights. But there is no light on the netbook when it's not switching on. Neither on the charger. And why doesn't the battery work if it's just the charger?
