notebook lcd stuck at a maximum of 1024 x 768

Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium, intel core 2 duo 2.20ghz/ 4gb
the lcd display of my laptop is stuck at 1024 x 768 (originaly it was 1280 x 800) and it shows the display as 'generic non pnp monitor' (originaly it was 'mobile pc display'). this happened about 2 weeks ago when i restarted my pc. Another thing to note is that the lcd does not display anything when i start the pc i.e it does not show the HP logo or the Windows loading screen. when it reaches the windows login screen, the lcd turns on and i can then login. another important thing is that the pc works perfectly with any other external monitor and even the HD Tv (connected via HDMI cable). i have already installed the latest vga drivers from the nvidia website.

vga card : nvidia geforce 105M

il be very thankful to anyone who can address this issue im facing

Sounds like you have the internal display set as the secondary display instead of the primary.

but i usually use only the laptop's lcd and no external display, so there should be no primary / secondary display problem then cause there is only one display.

If you have ever used an external display and set it as the primary I think the internal display will still be seen as the secondary display.

Connect an external monitor again and then see which is which. They can easily be switched once you have two.

If that doesn't work then you need to change that Default PNP to your screen. For a laptop I am not sure what the label would be.
